Roof measurements
before the house is built.
Aerial reports need a roof to photograph. When the house is still a plan set, these are the options, with their published prices.

The hand method, and the shortcut.
- By hand: how to measure a roof from blueprints, step by step, with the pitch factors and a worked example.
- The arithmetic: the free roof squares, roof pitch and metal panel calculators.
- Done for you: upload the plans and get the roof measured in 3D, plane by plane, with the parts list and a draft bid.
New construction roofs: questions
Does EagleView work for new construction?
Its current reports are measured from its own aerial imagery of a standing building, and its price list lists aerial reports (read October 6, 2026). EagleView announced a roof-only blueprint takeoff in 2016; ask EagleView whether it is still offered.
How do I get roof measurements before the house is built?
From the plans: measure them by hand from the roof plan and elevations, or send the plan set to a service that works from blueprints (the table above).
What does a blueprint roof report cost?
Published prices run from $30 to about $150 for the roof alone (read October 6, 2026). Ours is $39 for the roof trade, with a 3D model, material list, order sheet and draft bid.
Is a measurement from plans exact?
No. It is an estimate from the drawings; what gets built can differ, so check it on site before you order.
Have a plan set?
Send it in.
A plan set is all it takes: the house in 3D, and a report for every trade you order.
